Cinderella's Last Dance
Paint this ‘cause I’m blue
-and there’s no answer
time’s ticking
and the clock is striking
-midnight
Cinderella’s lost her glass slipper
Walking this dark alley
Did you find it?
The wind is howling
-it’s kinda cold
The moon’s full
The ice caps are melting
onto these dingy streets
She’s shivering
She’s wondering
Curving Pumpkins
-and even though it’s not Halloween
She can’t turn them back into that perfect carriage
She won’t get to the ball
Her dress is tattered
The Evil Step Sisters have won
And, Prince Charming will have to dance alone..

Untitled
Hanging on a word love
Wishing on a star
Blinded by the blindfold
-that covered up this scar
You see all was mistaken
As, confusion settled in
-and for the game you’re playing
Guess what, love - you win
Not interested at all
Quite possibly bored
And, when love said no to me
I guess that I was floored
And, lay gracefully upon this ground
Weather worn and tattered
Beaten upon and broken
A porcelain doll had shattered
And, images and imagery
Words left to sing
To the season- deadened
Un mended broken wing…

Crystal
The sound was muffled
-tiny shards of crystal crashing upon the marble floor
She couldn't hear it
and, if she couldn't hear it
It couldn't be spoken aloud
and, if it couldn't be spoken aloud
then no one would know
and, if no one knew
then there would be nothing
nothing at all to hide
and, things could be perfectly broken
'cause broken was familiar
Things weren't supposed to be perfect
Perfect was unfamiliar
Perfect was a myth
If perfect existed, then she was wrong
and yet - too afraid to be right
And it was painfully strange
and, wondrously confusing
As she turned towards the broken pieces of crystal
she saw light dance off their sharp edge...

Everybody Loves A Clown
The lights dim
-I’m spent
As the curtain lowers behind me,
and the crowd goes home
I’m left
-center stage
-watching as the Janitor ushers in
to sweep up the floor
“Hey, you… can you see me?”
I want to scream,
but don’t
-because he does
I know he does
He’s been paid not to talk to the actors
And, I’m melancholy
‘cause he’s beautiful
-broken
I want to fix him,
make him believe that he is spectacular
But, he won’t believe
-cause he’s a stranger
And, as I stagger off of this stage
-clown nose in hand
-to wash off this make-up
I hear nothing but the brush strokes upon the floor,
and the heavy footsteps pacing back and fourth
-row after row...

Caged In
Empty birdcages
A butterflies wings
This emptiness illuminates
-I don’t feel the sting

Heavy laden
-eyes never shut
memories fast forward
and everything but

And, you think that I care
‘cause I do and I don’t
It’s an inner struggle
-something I won’t

And, words are just words
Phrasing daunting
And, if this is real
-well, it’s really quite haunting

Trying to guess
You’ll never understand
Why love takes flight
-if it isn’t in demand

Seasons are changing
-Winter’s frost will soon melt away
And give birth to the spring
But, the spring will not stay

As summer enters
-the sun shines down
-and smiles replace
where once was a frown

At night the moon ripe- will swell
-the stars will glow
And, will I know then
-what I really need to know?……

Effortles
As the hands of the clock – ticked
My heart beat in an unsteady rhythm
I was lacking
And searching
And confusing
-situations
The clouds moved in
-shrouding my vision
and, all around me – vanity
I felt so pale in comparison
-unsteady
-loss of balance
-unspeakable
And, as I opened my mouth to speak it,
-it was over.
Like excepting the inevitable
Just as quickly
-lightly placed in my hand
and fallen
Effortless..

Jaded
Bright big balloon like bubbles bursting
All the while I sat watching Prince Charming turn back into a Stage’s Hand
Too late to save the Pumpkins
-or the three blind mice
Juliet stirs silently waiting at the alter
And, what of poor brooding Romeo
-well he never existed in the first place
For it was truly Rosaline who had his heart all along
Amazing how the mind conjures up happy scenarios
As Snow White bites into the apple and slips into unconsciousness
-no dwarves there to save her or place her into that beautiful glass case
They were off and running
-too afraid of the Evil Queen
And, what to make of first impressions
-and adolescent lullabies?
Facing the truth about Sleeping Beauty
-who never had the spotlight in the first place
-nor, the power to reject True Love’s kiss
And, poor Rapunzel still locked in the bell tower
-rapidly aging
No King Arthur, no Round Table, No Lancelot
Only truth
And truth is only as good as the stories you tell yourself
-or try to convince yourself that fairy tales can be real…

Canvas
Just an ordinary canvas
and, as I sit starring blankly
-the cold smooth surface
I see all the endless possibilities dance before me
The smoothness of her shape
The delicate features upon her skin
She toys with me
Stays for a duration locked within my mind
And, would anyone else find this to be the beauty I see
From mind to canvas
From canvas to mind
Surely this vision is mine and mine alone
Untouched/tainted
I work feverishly
Lines in place
-smoothing out the jagged edges
I feel her calling out to me
-in something like a dreamlike state,
and in this moment
it is all but confirmed
My madness
My binding muse
My haunting torment
This Jezebel
The one who never frees me
-only keeps me here, captive
I am hers
She mine
Sometimes I just can't share her
I stare as her image taunts me
I stare till I am intoxicated by the paint fumes
And, then just as I have freed her
-I smear black onto the canvas
Black until everything
-every line, every curve is gone
Black!
She is held captive again
My Genie in the bottle
She is mine, and mine alone
-as I am hers.....

This is not my image. I found it while doing a google search for a "blank canvas". Wish I could give the credit to whomever took it.

Shooting Stars
I’m just sitting on an abstract part of the moon
-captivated
-watching shooting stars dance
It’s amazing
And, as they make love in the stratosphere
I’m haunted
If I could only reach my hand up towards them
Maybe I could touch
their splendor and wonder….

Undone
Glass pyramids / paper lanterns
Seeing through
This infrastructure
-the decedent hue
And timeless memories
-like shards of glass,
are cutting up these blades of grass
The innocence, the beckoning back
fables and tales
-talent you lack
Oh, and who for the story you tell?
Your plate empty – no ring of a bell
Nothing is anything if not the same
And who is she – please speak her name
So that I can let go
-not follow after
‘cause this chapter is sad
and lacking the laughter
The generosity of your gentle lull
The polish has faded – the painting is dull
And, I can’t really remember a time when
Just like now – you answered friend
Your heart was true
You sounded sweet
-from the top of your head
to the soles of your feet
Lullabies and goodnights my baby dear
Pulling further away when I wanted you near
But, nothing matters
-to me now.
The game you played,
-well I learned how.
The card table is empty
-the players gone home
The King is alone,
to sit upon his throne
These cards are folding – under/over
The deck is lost,
and you never knew her...
