The Princess and The Toad
It was a story like no other & one that must be told
About The Beautiful Princess & her insecure friend, The Toad
You see this Princess was very beautiful with long dark velvet hair
but, she knew not of her beauty nor the power that lived there
Well, this Princess lived quite commonly for someone with so much
and, her humbleness caused confusion, or so the crowd thought such
And, although she skipped along merrily blind to the huge crowd
The Riverbank did call to her, where sat The Toad quite proud
This Toad you see was used to Princess' and their ill behavior
And, knew only too well that a kiss would not be in her favor
So he sat very Toad like upon a stone
and watched The Princess as she quickly walked on
She was so beautiful he thought as he looked slowly down
his welted up green skin would only make her frown
On & towards him & closer she walked still
Could she really be the one he'd waited for until
Until she had glided slowly and closer by
& met him at once as an eye caught an eye
She spotted The Toad who sat quietly there
She bit her lower lip, she twirled on her hair
She heard all the stories
She was well aware
She knew if she kissed him, a Prince soon would sit there
The man of her dreams, she did not wait
She asked him his name as though this would seal their fate
But The Toad would not answer thought Princess' were all the same
He gathered his gumption would not play her game
"I can not help you, Toad if you will not let me-
I can free you, if you'd just let it be
I can love you if you'd just stand still
all it takes is the acceptance of your free will"
"Why would you help me & why would you free me-
Why would you love me, can't you even see me?
I am not going to turn into the Man of Your Dreams
You're lying go away - I know of your schemes"
The Princess advanced closer as though in a pounce onto The Toad
Leaving her to fall upon the stone covered road
He hopped so quickly back into the water
Fleeing the possibility of what love could offer
And, as she got up & dusted off the dirt
The tears welt up in her eyes - she had never been this hurt
For this is what love had cast her way
Another to flee - one that wouldn't stay
Someone who was afraid of being set free
But stuck in a rut of what would always be
And, this Princess lived out the rest of her days
And, The Toad carried on with his untrusting ways......

Queen Elizabeth I
Scribbling perfect letters in unison
All these wasted moments
Never getting back again
And memories at your door
-rapping
I’m wondering.
Hitting highs and lows
Un-understanding
Clouded up vision
And smoothed voice-overs
There was something I’ve forgotten to do
Rule the world?
My heart has failed me once again
And led me down a path of confusion
And I hate this vanilla scent
Searing through my pours
And causing my senses to scramble
But, it smelled so lovely just yesterday
When daisy chains unbroken
And love was rainbows forming through a water sprinkler
Summer was rays of innocence
-so pure

Permanent Ink
I’m counting stars in a starless sky
The night – haunts
It’s darkness and it’s light
And, I’m twirling around in countless circles
-silly little girl
-acting the part
As though she’d forgotten to shield it
And, as this ache turns into nothing more
then unanswered questions
My lips are pursed in disappointment
It’s so foolish
-all of it
-yet unchanging
Riding out the storyline
-playing the part
And, as I place these ribbons & bows in my hair
-lace up these curtains
-pools of lilac
-delicate flowers in a vase
I’m reminded of the very thing I fear

Ophelia
Within a moment
-everything changes
dewdrops form on your carpet
and the moisture lingers
-flooding
-water rising
up to your knee-caps
and, before you know it you’re fully engulfed
sinking
-further
-deeper downward
weightless and yet vulnerable
as you try to swim against the current
it takes you
-away…..

Shapes
“You so beautiful”
he wanted to shout from the rooftops
-muffled tone
at a vision that held him captive
and as he opened his mouth
silence burst forth
-like a cosmic bubble
balancing between his lips & the shape of her
what a shape it was
-delicate fragile curves
just out of reach
standing like a silhouette in the distance
and yet close enough to take in the scent of her
lavender hues
logged in his nose
confusing his senses
and, her hair like wisps of honey spun gold
begging to be touched
the fullness of her lips too
held him victimized to their arousing thoughts
but, too paralyzed to move even a muscle…
-and, as the pencil dipped just out of his hand
creating a pencil point scratch upon this perfection
-disenchanted -
he crumbled up the paper
-and began to draw again……..

Writer's Block
Visions
Illusions
I wish I could put down into words
Write myself into the unknown
But, as I sit here.
-staring blankly at a blinking screen
Perplexed
Maybe I’m not supposed to write that
Maybe I’m supposed to write this
And maybes just a maybe
It’s all been written anyway
Can’t I just read a book?
Someone else’s story
Someone else’s thoughts
-so I don’t have to think
Think of this anymore
Poppy red fields
Vast horizons of green
Long strands of gold
Sun kissed and running
-off like a child
laughing
And, the Summer Sun shines brighter
Ice cream melting into my hands
So vivid this dream
So wasted
I can’t write it.
I can only think it
Incapable
Lost in a trance
Dancing in circles
But if I just could...

Cinderella's Last Dance
Paint this ‘cause I’m blue
-and there’s no answer
time’s ticking
and the clock is striking
-midnight
Cinderella’s lost her glass slipper
Walking this dark alley
Did you find it?
The wind is howling
-it’s kinda cold
The moon’s full
The ice caps are melting
onto these dingy streets
She’s shivering
She’s wondering
Curving Pumpkins
-and even though it’s not Halloween
She can’t turn them back into that perfect carriage
She won’t get to the ball
Her dress is tattered
The Evil Step Sisters have won
And, Prince Charming will have to dance alone..

Untitled
Hanging on a word love
Wishing on a star
Blinded by the blindfold
-that covered up this scar
You see all was mistaken
As, confusion settled in
-and for the game you’re playing
Guess what, love - you win
Not interested at all
Quite possibly bored
And, when love said no to me
I guess that I was floored
And, lay gracefully upon this ground
Weather worn and tattered
Beaten upon and broken
A porcelain doll had shattered
And, images and imagery
Words left to sing
To the season- deadened
Un mended broken wing…

Crystal
The sound was muffled
-tiny shards of crystal crashing upon the marble floor
She couldn't hear it
and, if she couldn't hear it
It couldn't be spoken aloud
and, if it couldn't be spoken aloud
then no one would know
and, if no one knew
then there would be nothing
nothing at all to hide
and, things could be perfectly broken
'cause broken was familiar
Things weren't supposed to be perfect
Perfect was unfamiliar
Perfect was a myth
If perfect existed, then she was wrong
and yet - too afraid to be right
And it was painfully strange
and, wondrously confusing
As she turned towards the broken pieces of crystal
she saw light dance off their sharp edge...

Everybody Loves A Clown
The lights dim
-I’m spent
As the curtain lowers behind me,
and the crowd goes home
I’m left
-center stage
-watching as the Janitor ushers in
to sweep up the floor
“Hey, you… can you see me?”
I want to scream,
but don’t
-because he does
I know he does
He’s been paid not to talk to the actors
And, I’m melancholy
‘cause he’s beautiful
-broken
I want to fix him,
make him believe that he is spectacular
But, he won’t believe
-cause he’s a stranger
And, as I stagger off of this stage
-clown nose in hand
-to wash off this make-up
I hear nothing but the brush strokes upon the floor,
and the heavy footsteps pacing back and fourth
-row after row...
