Painting The Roses Red
Your generosity was overwhelming at first -
As I stepped lightly through the white roses
you’d left behind
Tinged with guilt
Where petals stood erect & smelled of delicious perfumes
It was comical innocence
Those days like cotton candy coded kisses
When I buttoned up my blouse all the way up
-and held onto the collars to conceal my shame
I watched horrified whilst the other girls hiked up their skirts
-and stained crimson upon their lips
-with cigarettes in hand;
-and called to the boys as their parents drove away
Shock and disbelief
But, it was upon my arrival into this most prestigious club
-that I caught a glimpse of you
Undressing me with your eyes,
though I’ll admit I didn’t understand it
And, as the Band played on –
Imagine this:
-a Lamb entering a Lion’s den
I hadn’t a fighting chance
Your hands were all over me before the music had stopped
I rushed back home that night, changed
-noticing your white roses were now dripping with wet paint
-RED….

Neverland
Holding onto your shadow
like Wendy Darling in the night
needle in hand
-waiting
I've got it trapped safely here
just within the confines of this old hope chest
sitting at the window
staring blankly at the moon
-wondering
In search of something unknown
a childlike bond
so innocent
The dog is keeping guard, while the house is still
little boys in their slumber
and, still I sit
-anticipating
Wanting this sleep to come
so that I too may drift off to Neverland
And, as this fairy sprinkles dust upon my hair
I close my eyes and dream of you, Peter Pan....

Torn Down
By the ocean shore I lay
-abandoned
How thoughtful of you to plant those poppies
to lay by my bed;
their red hues held me captive for awhile
But when the Sailors came and cast out their daisy chains
-at once I felt what innocence felt like
Child like dew splashed upon and over me in waves
The lavish colors of the evening sun aroused me
-awoke me from this melancholy
No time to speak the words I so desired
As the emptiness reminded me
-no longer were visitors welcomed here
No one here to admire these stone walls
And, the dust that settled upon my floor boards
dancing in time within the wind
-upwards & in spirals
For my story was about a girl
-the one for whom I was built
It was about a dream
-his dream
I stand still - awaiting mine....

Broken
When the Actors fled this bar
-Late night
Starring at the spotlight glaring down
What a night
-to have this drunken stumble
-blinded through this inebriated stage
She was lovely,
-The Leading Lady, Jezebel
-all decked out in lace – enticing
And, yet I couldn’t remove these glasses
-to see her face.
Smelling the roses
-intoxicated by Her perfume
It was childlike
-My miscommunication
The words like anchors fought through me
-too late as they fled my lips
“I love you!”
And as she smiled, wickedly
-I knew She had me
–hooked,
wrapped cheatingly around her delicate hand
I would have fought if only
-She had given me the slightest chance
But, it was too late,
-I slipped through the trap door -
-broken…

Moon Goddess
Send her back to me
so that I may enfold her close by my heart
the way it used to be

Send her back to me
for surely you don't love her
and, she is not yours
and, surely she doesn't belong there

Send her back to me
send her straight my way
please don't hesitate
I want her back today

Send her back to me
that's all that I ask of you
cause I miss her so
Oh, if only you knew.............

Dancing On This Stage As The Cannons Roared
Dancing On This Stage As The Cannons Roared –

I sat steadily in the middle of your rainbow
and, to my right red
to my left yellow

The clouds bowed as I was captivated by your beautiful nature
How precise and perfectly- blended together

I gathered up the rays of your sunshine to place together
Upon and in my hair so long and smooth and amber

But, the rays clung until every stand fell amber to gold
As the words formed before my lips – as I became so bold

I thought: “how gentle, how precise, how perfect” and turned my eyes up towards you
As the reflection of your beauty turned my once black eyes to brown to green to blue

But, you turned away and no longer caught sight of the girl so in love with your power
Feelings/Fleeting and desperation dying by the hour

And, within an instant it was over
-curtains dropped further to the ground
The stage-hands dismantled the equipment and could no longer stick around

But, in my mind the crowd called encore
-and I bowed and curtsied and watched you slip out the backdoor…

Devil In An Angle's Disguise
If I spread my wings perhaps she could see
The beautiful I
The delicate she

I would dance around
I would show her this wonder
-of we two
of love’s surrender

I’d take her by her dainty hand
Her feet upon mine
-upright to stand

And, I would enfold her within
As I caress every inch of her olive skin

Gaze into her tearless dark eyes and smile
Just knowing she’d be with me for longer than a while

But, like in dreams
And dreams do stray
Love- like wishes
often goes away

Be careful what you wish for
And so the saying goes
When stung by a thorn
That once lived on a rose……

Slumber
The Boy, The Sun is smiling at the girl on the Earth
Saying – “I’m shining up here just for you”
And, as the girl looks up
-sunglasses on, because his beauty is blinding
She smiles too
And, the honey gold highlights are forming within her wild dark hair
-the ice cream is dripping down to her fingertips
She takes him in deeper within a breath & exhales
She loves the warmth of his rays like skin upon hers
But, he doesn’t stay
He moves out of the stratosphere with a brilliant display of orange & gold hues
as he says his goodbye
And, the girl cries momentarily within the darkness
-until
Another planet forms within the dark blue sky
A perfect brother to the first
Though silver instead of gold
And, stars form around him
-shooting little planets to illuminate her darkness
And, he loves her too, like his brother before him
She looks directly up at him
She can stare into his face as he looks back
And, she doesn’t feel so lonely now
-‘cause he won’t leave her
And, although her eyes aren’t hurting, they are growing heavy
She tries so desperately to fight the slumber,
-but it’s coming swiftly/quickly
As her head hits her pillow her Silver Knight sheds a tear
-knowing he’ll have to wait until tomorrow…

Poppies
The smell of fragrant new poppies
-growing in your field
No longer the white wishful flowers you once blew upon
-that ran scattered in the wind
Poppies
they've enticed you with their beauty
And, the ringing sound of innocence no longer
beckons to you
-You no longer heed it's call
It's ignited this flame inside
-no turning back....
